Stone Guide

Amethyst

Amethyst (AM)
Amethyst is the clear purple, mauve or violet form of the mineral Quartz. Quartz is a crystalline rock or mineral composed of silicon dioxide.

Blue Topaz

Blue Topaz (BT)
Topaz occurs in igneous rocks such as pegmatites, granites and volcanic lavas. Other colours include yellow, green and pink.

Citrine

Citrine (CT)
The golden version of quartz, coloured by its iron content.

Enamel

Enamel
A man-made material that takes a pigment and a liquid and fuses them together to create different colours. Black Enamel (BK), Blue Enamel (BE), Brown Enamel (BW), Lilac Enamel (LE), Muli Enamel (ME), Orange Enamel (OE), Purple Enamel (PE), Pink Enamel (PK), Red Enamel (RE), Turquoise Enamel (TE), White Enamel (WE) and Yellow Enamel (YE).

Garnet

Garnet (GT)
Garnets are isomorphous, meaning they share the same crystal structure. Although the colour red is the one that occurs most frequently it comes in a variety of colours.

High Polish

High Polish (HP)
High polished finish is a flawless mirror finish applied by using a hard polishing mop.

Moonstone

Moonstone (MS)
Moonstone belongs to the large mineral family Feldspars. It is an opalescent stone which can range from white to blue, peach, green, pink, yellow, brown or grey with a silvery sheen.

Mother of Pearl

Mother of Pearl (MP)
This is the lining of the shell of tropical shellfish and colours can vary from greyish blue and pink to purple and green. Mother of Pearl is naturally a difficult material to work with but creates a beautiful shimmering effect.

Peridot

Peridot (PD)
Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral olivine, a rock forming mineral. Olive to lime green is the most important quality for peridots. this characteristic colour is caused by iron.

Rock Crystal

Rock Crystal (RC)
Rock Crystal is a clear colourless form of the mineral Quartz. Appropriately the name derives from ‘krustallos’, the Greek word for ice.

Synthetic

Synthetic
Synthetic Green Quartz (GQ), Synthetic Opal (SO), Synthetic Ruby (SR) and Synthetic Sapphire (SS).

Turquoise

Turquoise (TQ)
A hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium, turquoise is prized as a gemstone whose intense blue colour is often mottled with veinlets of brown limonite or black manganese oxide.
